Photo of the Day: September 10, 2013 (Rising from the Water)

Rising from the Water

Rising out of the glacial cool waters of Yellowstone Lake is the inactive geyser, the Fishing Cone.  Found at the West Thumb Geyser Basin, the Fishing Cone used erupt as high as 40 feet but is now inactive and has been reclassified as a hot spring.  Legend has it that early settlers would catch a fish and the dunk it in the cone to cook the fish.  September 2009.

Colorful Prismatic Sunset

Grand Prismatic Springs (located in Midway Geyser Basin in Yellowstone) never disappoints with its breathtaking beauty.  The steam and runoff seem to take on the entire spectrum of colors.  This picture was taken at sunset.  September 2010.

Photo of the Day: September 1, 2013 (Glorious Morning Glory)

Glorious Morning Glory
Morning Glory Pool is one of the most glorious hot springs in Yellowstone.  While much faded from its former glory due to clogged entryways from tourists throwing items in the pool, it is still breathtaking.  It is located in the Upper Geyser Basin.  May 2013.
