Photo of the Day: February 28, 2015 (Canyon Moon)

Canyon Moon

Another nighttime shot, this was taken from the Colorado River on the border of Arches National Park. It was on the "Canyonlands by Night Sound & Light Show" boat ride. We've done that tour twice now and enjoyed it very much both times!  You can see a sliver of a crescent moon in the upper left.

August Supermoon

Each year there are a number of "supermoons" when the full or new moon occurs when the moon is closest to the Earth.  Last August was the "largest" supermoon of 2014.  I haven't taken a lot of nighttime shots---but was lucky enough to be on the Beartooth Highway during that time.  Here is my shot of the August supermoon!

Photo of the Day: February 26, 2015 (Wild Goose Island)

Wild Goose Island

A trip to Glacier isn't complete without a trip down the east side of the Going-to-the-Sun Highway.  At the bottom of the pass is St. Mary's Lake and this often photographed scenic with the tiny Wild Goose Island in the middle of the picture.

Photo of the Day: February 25, 2015 (The Blues of Glacier)

The Blues of Glacier

McDonald Creek offers a beautiful example of he characteristic turquoise blue water found in Glacier National Park.  The turquoise coloring is from glacial flour, which is the fine particulates suspended in the water and is caused by the grinding of rocks when glaciers slide over them.

Photo of the Day: February 23, 2014 (Over the Rainbow)

A beautiful rainbow had a moment to shine during a break in the rain as another storm rolled in.  This was taken near Roosevelt Junction in Yellowstone National Park.

Photo of the Day: February 20, 2015 (Meade Hotel)

Meade Hotel
Originally built in 1875 in Bannack, Montana, as the first Beaverhead County Courthouse, it remained empty for nearly a decade after the county seat was moved to Dillon, Montana in 1881.  The building was purchased and transformed in a hotel by Dr. John Christian Meade in 1890.  Hotel Meade operated on and off until the 1940s.  Bannack is one of the best preserved ghost towns in Montana.

A Painter's Palette
Like the colors on a painter's palette, Palette Springs at Mammoth Hot Springs creates a blended beauty of colors on the canvas in Yellowstone National Park.

Skies On Fire
People ask me what my biggest tip for photography is and I have to say one of my favorites is to look behind you.  Some of the best photographs I have ever gotten have been when there is an amazing scene in front of me and then I turn around and find something even more incredible behind me.  This was one of those shots.

Photo of the Day: February 17, 2015 (Pink Skies Over Gray Wolf)

I recently was asked by a follower why I had stopped posting my photos of the day...and the truth is life just got in the way.  At his request, I am going to try to start posting them again.  So, today I thought it fitting that I start with the mountains that inspire me most. I hope you enjoy.  <3 Christine

Pink Skies Over Gray Wolf

The other night I saw my daughter grab her iPod and run outside---this is what she was running to take a picture of.  I couldn't agree with her more that it was a picture worthy sunset.
